GECKO is a new community interest company based in Frome, offering innovative teaching and therapeutic projects online to support students aged 11- 20 who, for whatever reason, struggle with mainstream education.
This September they launched their autumn sessions after a successful trial over the summer term.
The organisers report, “Covid-19 has resulted in some young people feeling unable to attend school. Gecko offer one-to-one wellbeing and student-led project sessions online to support a young person’s mental health and re-engage them with learning.”
Their initial offer of sessions filled up in a week and they have just launched more sessions between 10am and 3pm. There is a grant available that part funds the cost of any student who does not have access to educational funding. The remaining cost is £15 per session.
The Gecko sessions combine the alternative education needed by these students with an appreciation of the wellbeing essential to their social integration and personal confidence. If you are interested, have a look at facebook.com/GeckoCommunity or www.geckocommunity.org.uk.
