ARE you looking for a new fun way to keep fit and socialise? Then why not try Tribal Belly Dance.
Tribal Bellydance is a contemporary take on traditional middle eastern dance. It is danced in groups and fuses styles from Indian classical dance, flamenco and other folkloric and contemporary dance styles from around the world.
Barbara Gonzalez, who runs the classes said, “This earthy belly dance style was first created by Carolena Nericcio in San Francisco in the 1990’s with her troupe, Fat Chance Belly Dance, and since then the dance style has spread globally.
“I have been dancing since 2002 and in 2008 travelled to San Francisco where I became a certified teacher of American Tribal Style Belly Dance.
“In my classes, students learn the basics of bellydance and with time and as they develop confidence, we begin to layer on more complex techniques. But most importantly, this is a fun, interactive and non-competitive way to meet people and have a laugh while toning up and improving fitness and coordination.
“Dance is good for your mind, body and spirit. What’s more, in Tribal Belly Dance, we don’t discriminate and welcome all sizes, shapes and ages.”
Classes will be ongoing on Tuesday mornings at 10.30am and Wednesday evenings at 7.15pm. They are held at Frome’s newest community venue, the HubNub Centre on Whittox Lane.
