Over 60 people enjoyed the recent Frome and District Royal British Legion (RBL) Poppy Appeal Party, which celebrated the success of this year’s appeal that raised over £48,000.
The event, held at the Assembly Rooms, saw attendees enjoy an afternoon tea. Awards were presented to long-serving members by Regional Poppy Appeal Manager Claire Peppiatt.
A five-year award was given to Cindy Groves-Veen; 10-year awards were presented to Lin Hatherall, Stewart Jenkinson and Chris Simpson; and 20-year awards were presented to Jane Norris, Jane Wood and Pete Dayman-Johns.
A further three awards will be presented to individuals who were not able to attend the party.
This year, the Royal Naval Association Cup for Outstanding Service to the Poppy Appeal was presented to Stewart Jenkinson, recognising his work providing support to the poppy stalls across town every day of the appeal.
Frome and District Poppy Appeal Organiser (PAO), Richard Aspray, said, “He also worked tirelessly both before and after the appeal period to ensure our poppy stock was efficiently managed.
“We are so very grateful to them, as well as many other businesses and organisations across Frome, for their continued support for the Poppy Appeal.
“All donations raised during the Poppy Appeal help to provide support to serving and ex-serving members of the British Armed Forces, their families and dependants who are experiencing hardship or dealing with the effects of injuries or bereavements.
“Frome is wonderful at raising money to support good causes, with help from our local community and in cooperation with our local businesses.”
This year’s Poppy Appeal starts on 22nd October. If anyone would like to be involved in supporting the appeal as a volunteer, organisation or business, please contact Richard on 07511 961248.
