THE Great Big Green Week is set to return this summer, a UK-wide celebration of community action to tackle climate change and protect nature.
As part of the national campaign, Frome’s Great Big Green Week will run from Saturday 8th June to Sunday 16th June, with over 30 events providing opportunities to learn more about what it means to be green, explore our wonderful open spaces, and so much more.
A spokesperson for the organisers, Frome Town Council, said, “Whilst we make some final tweaks to the programme, here are some examples of events that you will be able to find in this year’s edition of Great Big Green Week:
“There’s a chance for the whole family to get involved at the Big Green Summer Meetup in Victoria Park or by taking an adventure down to the banks of the River Frome for this year’s River Festival. Children will also be able to enjoy a Tiny Forest Citizen Science Workshop and try their hand at pond-dipping in Welshmill.
“For nature lovers, explore some of Frome’s most majestic trees and their histories, spot as much flora and fauna as possible at a local nature reserve, or take part in the morning challenge designed to inspire mindful connection with the world around us.
“For Frome’s cyclists, the Frome Community Bike Project is offering a series of events throughout the week, including the ever-popular free bike checks, maintenance workshops, group rides and more.”
Councillor Fiona Barrows said, “Great Big Green Week is an opportunity to celebrate the action that Frome is taking against the current climate emergency. Not only does it demonstrate what we are capable of as a community, but it also brings to light the incredible efforts from individuals and organisations across Frome, and how we can all play our part in the action against climate change.
