MORE Frome runners have been representing the town at events in Salisbury and Cheddar over recent weekends.
This year’s Salisbury 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 was held on Sunday, 14 August. A hardy bunch of Frome runners lined up for the two longer events through the Wiltshire countryside. Jo Kirk (F35) took on the 42km marathon distance, completing the course in 04:48:50, a time that earned her an outstanding 3rd position in category. Ian Holmes (M45) and Victoria Penman (F40) faced the longer 50km ultramarathon. Ian crossed the line in an impressive 05:43:16 while Victoria finished in 06:10:03 to bag 5th place in category. One weekend later and runners were lining up for another local challenge. This time, the Cheddar Gorge 10K.
Starting at the top of the gorge, this 10K race follows a tough course over varied terrain, with long climbs and steep descents plus a flight of steep steps affectionately known as ‘Hell’s Steps’. Frome runner Peter Lee (M60) stepped up to the plate and completed the race in a time of 1:15:30.
