The winter programme of 12 fortnightly Saturday afternoon lectures, organised by the Frome Society, continues on 15th November.
The next talk will be given by local Frome resident Andrew Ziminski on his new book, Church Going: A Stonemason’s Guide to the Churches of the British Isles.
Andrew has worked as a stonemason throughout the West Country for the past 35 years. Over that time, he has become an inveterate church crawler and has visited over half of Britain and Ireland’s 11,000 or so churches of mediaeval origin.
Organisers say, “Churches are many things to us. They are places of worship, vibrant community hubs and oases of calm reflection. To know how to read a church building is to hold a key to the past that unlocks an understanding of our shared history. In this talk, Andrew will help us to look at our mediaeval churches through the eyes of someone with over 30 years’ experience of repairing them and who, over a long journey, has gathered many stories to tell about them. Copies of Andrew’s books will be available to buy.”
Frome Society’s lectures take place in the Assembly Rooms at the rear of Frome Memorial Theatre, starting at 2.30pm. Visitors are welcome but are asked to pay an entry fee of £5.
The Society’s talks are proving very popular and, to be sure of a seat, it is advisable to book a place through the Society’s website: www.fsls.org.uk
