FROME Half Marathon is under new management for next year’s event, as the race continues to go from strength to strength.
The annual 13-mile run, which raises thousands of pounds for charity every year, has recruited a professional organiser in Craig Thornton, from national company The Race Organiser.
Craig will organise the 2017 event, which will be held on 16th July; entries are open now at www. fromehalfmarathon .co.uk.
Race spokesperson Dave Perret said, “The outgoing committee would like to thank all the local businesses and organisations that have supported the event over the past years, as well as the runners who have taken part, and the local residents who have come out to support the runners on the route.
“The new organisers will continue to raise money for local charities, and the races will follow the same format and before in 2017.
“Since it was launched in 2012, the Frome Half Marathon has been organised by a committee of volunteers, initially made up of members of the Frome Running Club and Frome Rotary Club.
“This fantastic event has since become a firm annual favourite in the local calendar, with runners coming from far and wide each year taking to the streets of Frome – on closed roads – to run in the 5k, 10k and half marathon each summer.
“Over time the committee has reduced in size to a small group, who have taken the event forward to become one of the most successful and popular in the area. The Frome Half Marathon, 10K and 5K has hosted county race league events, county championships and a regional championship, as well as welcoming Team GB athletes to the start line, alongside members of the local community, raising thousands of pounds for a wide range of worthy causes.
“The success of the event is due to the hard work of the committee, who work tirelessly all year round to make sure the day runs smoothly; but as the event continues to grow and flourish, a team who can commit to the event more fully is needed.”
