CELEBRATING 40 years since establishment in 1983, Wessex Counselling & Psychotherapy, Frome’s longest running counselling service, is hanging out the bunting for a year of celebration, awareness and fundraising.
From small beginnings in the early 1980s, the service now offers affordable, accessible counselling and psychotherapy in Frome, Bath, Bristol and Street, along with a wide range of counsellor training courses.
Jane Bennett, administrator and training coordinator said, “As a local charity, over the years we have been supported by the local community in raising funds to help us support our low-cost counselling schemes, for which we are very grateful. This has enabled members of the community who may be struggling financially to access our services.”
A range of events will be scheduled throughout the year.
Jane said, “On Saturday 25th March, there will be a music event at 23 Bath Street, Frome, to raise awareness and funds for the Youth Space counselling service for 15–18-year-olds living in Frome and surrounding areas.
“Young people often face feelings of depression and anxiety especially around exams, loneliness, or feeling different to others. If you are a local musician willing to volunteer at the event, we would be pleased to hear from you; please contact me, Jane Bennett, at office@wessexcp.co.uk or call 01373 453355. On the line up so far, we are delighted to have performances from Ariel and Ginger Sun.”
Ariel is an alternative folk singer/songwriter/storyteller, the alter ego of performing artist Portia van de Braam. Jane Bennett and Stuart Andrews also known as Ginger Sun are a Frome based singer / guitar duo and will be putting their own funky spin on some popular classics.
Training courses offered include a 10-week Introduction to Counselling & Listening Skills; a Foundation Certificate in Psychodynamic Skills & Attitudes; Counselling – Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling and Counselling Children and Young People.
