Over 150 residents, family and friends, neighbours and people from the local community attended a garden party to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the building of Hanover Gardens.
Hanover Gardens is independent living accommodation run by Anchor Hanover on the Critchill side of town and was first commissioned in February 1969. The first bungalow was built at No 60 and the first residents were Margaret and Bertie Kimber. Over the years, Hanover Gardens has become a community where people live their retirement happily with the support of an estate manager if they need it. It is known for its extensive grounds and lawns, which residents take care of, with the help of a gardener.
At the celebration, people enjoyed music from Paul Kirtley, a local musician, who sang a set of songs from 1969 and a bucket collection for Bone Cancer Research, the charity he promotes, raised £132. A raffle also raised over £400 for estate social funds with prizes donated from local businesses.
Estate manager Terry Burton said, “It was a great afternoon, everyone played their part, as did the weather, and the community here would like to thank everyone for coming and taking part and being part of a very special afternoon.”
