Tessa Yates is a local children’s book author and illustrator, and founder of The Happy Book Company. She has just published her first book, Squirrel and the Three Bears which is currently available to pre-order on kickstarter.
Squirrel and the Three Bears is a story about a flighty young Squirrel who is too busy enjoying autumn that she completely forgets to get ready for winter. The only way she’s going to survive is if she can pluck up the courage to ask for help from the Bears!
“It’s a beautifully illustrated picture book about how reaching out and asking for help is the most courageous thing you can do,” she says.
“The Happy Book Company started because I wanted to create books that show children what happiness really is, and how they can be happy every single day. So often we wait for certain conditions to be right in our lives to be happy, “I’ll be happy when…” is often a phrase we hear ourselves say. The Happy Book Company believes that children can learn to be happy with themselves just as they are right now. And that they can be happy with the crazy world that we live in today.”
Tessa lives in Frome and spends her days drawing squirrels at The Guild co-working space in Bath where she is a part of the Network for Creative Enterprise, a group of creative entrepreneurs in the South West.
