The Friends of Frome Hospital have announced that the theme for their second ‘open to all’ coffee morning will be ‘volunteering’.
The forthcoming event, to be held in the foyer of the Frome Community Hospital on Saturday 7th March from 10am until noon, will centre on volunteering opportunities with the Friends.
At their first coffee morning in February, more than fifty people attended, with many enquiring how they can help. In response, the Friends have listed a range of duties for which they need to find additional support to fulfil their commitment not only in and around the hospital, but importantly out in the community as well.
Chairman of the Friends of Frome Hospital, Derek Trick says, “We as a group are positive and active, and pride ourselves in serving patients, staff and our community. We flourish by working in small groups, of three or four people, who concentrate on one specific task. Already there are teams established, working on the ward, managing the therapy gardens and maintaining outside furniture, and as guardians to the Frome Community Defibrillator Project.
“However, over the years the Friends have grown in stature and diversity within the community. Our constant challenge is to keep up with modern trends and technology. An excellent example is the management of our website, which is our direct communications link with the town. We are urgently in need of a ‘new generation person’ who is au fait with computer technology and how we can use social media on a local basis.
“Increasingly we are also offering CPR and other training with regard to health issues in our local schools, where extra help is required.
“Preparing our coffee mornings and distributing literature around the town are just other examples where volunteers could dedicate a couple of hours each month. We like our team members to do one job only, do it their own way, and enjoy the responsibility. Then the whole dynamics of the organisation works well. The Friends of Frome Hospital trustees, along with hospital staff, look forward to welcoming the community on the 7th March.”
The Friends of Frome Hospital will be hosting regular coffee mornings on the first Saturday of each month throughout the year, with a themed program being planned including – meet the matron, infant health issues, defibrillator training, relax in the therapy garden, summerfest on the balcony, through to Christmas carols in December.
