RUNNERS are gearing up to compete in this year’s Frome Half Marathon, 10k and 5k running races with entry to the event still open.
The half marathon and the 10k and 5k races will take place on Sunday 15th July at 10am from Frome Football Ground. Last year’s event was the most successful with over 1,150 athletes running through the streets of the town and organisers are expecting the same this year.
Last year, the race record was set by British athlete Andrew Davies who completed the half marathon course in 1 hour, 8 minutes and 30 seconds.
This year, the seventh Frome Half Marathon is likely to sell out again, with registration closing on 8th July, with no entries after or on the day. To enter visit their website www.frome halfmarathon.co.uk.
Prizes will be awarded to the first three men and women in the race and for the winners of the following categories: MV40, MV50, MV60, FV40, FV50 and FV60. There will also be a King and Queen of the Mountain where all half marathon competitors will be timed as they run up Egford Hill to see who will be crowned.
The event is open to runners aged 17 and above and will be run under a RunBritain Licence. Individual runners are raising money for their chosen charities, while the event itself raises money for Frome Activities and Sports Trust (FAST), a new initiative that aims to provide a community resource for any activity or sports group in the town; plus other local charities.
