HAYESDOWN First School recently welcomed the parents of Lauren Mead, a former pupil of the school, who died suddenly last year, aged 19 years.
The school reports, “Lauren’s parents, Adrian and Maria, along with Maria’s partner Darran, have gifted the school a memorial bench so that Lauren’s memory can live on within the Hayesdown school family.
“Our school council representatives joined Mrs Battersby, Mrs McCormack, Mrs Turner, Mrs Cooper and Mrs Taylor as we accepted the bench and spent time reflecting on the happy years Lauren spent at Hayesdown. Mrs McCormack and Mrs Turner remembered Lauren well and spoke of how she shone with a beautiful smile and a spirited personality.
“The school council were true ambassadors for the school during this special service and they were able to confidently and respectfully go back to their classes and explain the significance of the bench.
“The bench is placed by the Peace Garden and children will use it as a friendship bench – a place to sit and chat with friends.
“We are delighted that children at Hayesdown First School will benefit from such a generous gift and would like to thank Adrian and Maria for coming to school to share this with us; we are sure that Lauren would be thrilled as well.”
