RESIDENTS are invited to join an event on Friday 13th January to share ‘innovative’ ideas about how Packsaddle Fields could be used, as 90 homes could be built on the area.

Local community action group, People for Packsaddle, have been campaigning to stop the proposed development on the fields north of Packsaddle Way and instead for the area to become a permanent green community space. It followed an announcement in March last year that Somerset County Council was selling the land. The field was then cleared by bulldozers, despite the developer not yet submitting plans, which are expected to come early this year.
In a statement, People for Packsaddle Fields said, “Do you have the time and passion to join our Packsaddle Project Group? We will be banding around for innovative ideas to transform our beloved fields into a community space which supports and encourages a diverse range of flora and fauna, drilling down in each suggestion to check viability and sustainability. The potential for Packsaddle is boundless.
“We need to show the local authority we are serious in making this spot of beauty a haven for wildlife and community to thrive.”
The event starts at 9.30am and the location is to be confirmed. It follows a meeting held at Frome Football Club on Wednesday 16th December, where the group met with local residents to let them know about the development.
They are preparing to oppose the plans for housing, once the planning application has been submitted.
