LOCAL Lib Dem parliamentary candidate Sarah Yong and David Heath MP were pleased to welcome the Care Minister, Norman Lamb to the area on Friday 11th April.
Norman Lamb was taken for a tour of Frome Medical Centre where he had the chance to meet staff and learn more about what the practice are doing and the services offered to local people since the opening just over a year ago.
Norman Lamb said, “I’m really impressed by the staff and the positive community ethos behind Frome Medical Centre – it’s a great facility for local people and it’s been really interesting to come and visit.”
Norman Lamb was then taken by Sarah and David down to Somerton for a private discussion meeting on mental health provision. Attendees included representatives from South Somerset Mind, student services at local colleges, The Samaritans, those working in counselling and psychotherapy as well as patients and service users.
Sarah said, “Mental Health is part of Norman’s responsibilities as a health minister and I was really keen to get him to talk and listen to people involved in mental health in our area.
“Improving mental health provision is something I’m extremely passionate about, and it was good to have the opportunity for him to tell us what he is doing, and for local people to give him feedback and tell him what they’d like to see happening. I hope we can get him to come to Somerset again!”
