FRIENDS of the River Frome (FoRF) have highlighted another incident of pollution of the river, which took place last month.
They say, “On 5th November two fuel tanks on the Marston Estate ruptured, releasing a large amount of heating oil which drained down the Dippy and into the river. FoRF members alerted the Environment Agency who immediately brought in pumps and put a boom across the river at Adderwell to catch the oil.
“Further booms were put in place to protect the Rodden Nature Reserve and downstream. This is the third pollution incident recently. We don’t yet know what the environmental damage was, but it seems it was not as serious as the slurry spill on August 21st which killed a lot of river life. The costs of the emergency cleanup will be substantial though.”
The Friends of the River Frome also have a message for anyone considering their Christmas shopping saying, “If you buy anything on Amazon in future, please use this Amazon Smile link.
