HUNTING Raven, an independent book shop in Frome, has been selected as a regional finalist for the ‘Independent BookShop of the Year’ award.
Hosted by The Bookseller, business magazine of the book industry since 1858, they received a huge number of entries this year, proving to be a huge achievement to be shortlisted for the award.
The team at The Bookseller said, “From these regional shortlists, our expert judges will pick a regional winner in each group. These regional winners will then vie for the ultimate accolade of the ‘Independent Bookshop of the Year.’ This will be awarded on 14th May at the British Book Awards ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
“Each regional winner will receive two free tickets to the awards and the overall winning bookshop will receive a £5,000 prize.”
Wayne Winstone, owner of the bookshop said, “We are absolutely thrilled to make the shortlist; the team at Hunting Raven has worked very hard and to get this recognition is fabulous. Bookselling has had some challenging years, but books have remained of the highest quality and it has been a privilege to present them to the readers in Frome”
Other regional finalist for South-West England are; Mrs Middleton’s Shop and The Rabbit Hole in the Isle of Wight, Westbourne Bookshop in Dorset, Owl and Pyramid Children’s Bookshop in Devon, The White Horse Bookshop in Wiltshire, and The Edge of the World Bookshop in Cornwall.
To allow Hunting Raven to take home the prize it all relies on the community of Frome and surrounding area to tell The Bookseller why the shop should win. A selection of these comments will then be taken to the judges to accompany their entry.
