JUNIOR tennis players from Frome recently participated in the Marcelle’s Tennis Academy / LTA Matchplay tennis tournament at the Frome Tennis Club.
The organisers report, “The tournament consisted of boys and girls from age group 8 and under up to 18 and under.
“There was a high level of tennis displayed by competitors who received praise from the tournament umpire Stephen Marcelle, especially for defying the rainy weather conditions.
“Poppy Eastwood won the girls 8 and under, with Olivia Spicer runner up. In the boys 8 and under Malachi Rafferty won with Luca Hannah Megg runner up. Girls 10 and under was won by Darcy Minton, runner up Meredith Haliwell. Boys 10 and under won by Lucas Ainley, runner up Dante .
“Girls 12 and under won by Lola Starr, runner up Hanna Puleston. Boys 12 and under won by Samuel Cozma and runner up Malachi Rafferty. Girls 14 and under was won by Frome’s top junior female player Imogen Lines. Runner up was Lola Storr from Salisbury.
“Unfortunately there were no entrants for boys 14, however the boys 16 winner was Josiah Rafferty and runner up was Daniel Kershaw Moore. There were no girls 16 entrants or 18 played. Lastly, but by no means least, boys 18 and under was won by Charlie Leatham and the runner up Andre Bujor.
“Some special awards were presented at the close of the tournament. Best sportswoman went to Olivia Spicer, best sportsman went to Dante Bona and most promising player went to Imogen Lines.”
Tennis coach Stephen Marcelle said, “It was good to see so many young ones brave the inclement weather to play a high level of tennis and also the great support of their parents who came along to cheer them on.”
