FOR anyone in need of some extra kindness in their life, the team at The Good Heart will be offering an inspiring programme of events in the upcoming third Frome Kindness Festival, taking place from 18th to 22nd March.
Festival highlights include a visit from acclaimed film director Ken Loach and the second annual kindness lecture, in which local resident Jo Berry will speak about her ongoing dialogue with Patrick Magee, the ex-IRA combatant who murdered her father in the Brighton bombing.
At Badger Hill Stadium, Ken Loach will introduce a screening of his most recent film The Old Oak followed by a discussion about the connection between kindness and social justice. The Climates team will be screening the 2023 documentary Blue Carbon, and the Frome Street Bandits have kindly agreed to play at the festival finale party.
“And if you’re looking for something a bit quieter, there will be a whole day on the topic of ‘Kindness to Ourselves’ including a workshop on how to set boundaries with Mark Walsh from Embodiment Unlimited”, said festival director Alison Murdoch.
Festival coordinator Gemma Annan added, “As usual there will be a host of free activities for families, including clothes and toy swaps, an afternoon of music and storytelling at the Bennett Centre, a children’s concert at Christ Church and a tea party at Rook Lane for under-10s and over-60s, featuring musical entertainment from the Bathtub Orchestra.
“We’re excited to share that we’re collaborating with Frome Museum and Edventure to create a Kindness Trail around the town, and with Frome Writers Collective on a ‘Stories of Kindness’ writing project. For the first time, this year’s festival will also have an international dimension, with speakers from Denmark and Colombia sharing their experience of the role of kindness in education and peacebuilding, and an Artists in Dialogue exhibition and celebration on the topic of HOPE/ НАДІЯ showcasing Frome’s Ukrainian community. “
The full Festival programme will go live on 14th February. For more information go to www.thegoodheart.uk, where you can also sign up to the mailing list.
