History joyfully repeats itself at Frome Town Hall

A LOCAL couple have repeated history by tying the knot at Frome Town Hall nearly 50 years after the bride’s parents did the same. 

Stanley and Marion Sprake celebrated their marriage at the iconic venue at 11am on 12th May 1973 and their daughter Sara followed suit by marring Mike Smith at 11am on 11th September 2021 with her parents both in attendance. 

Sara said, “It was such a special moment to get married where my parents did and even stand on the same steps to have our photo taken together. I loved every minute of the day and couldn’t stop smiling.” 

“Frome Town Hall is an elegant heritage building made from local stone and dating from 1892,” say the town council. “It has been renovated to a high standard and retains some of its old features which have been lovingly restored, such as the original mosaic flooring. This means the venue is very much a blank canvas for ceremonies but with heart and soul. 

“Some of the little touches that make the venue extra special are the chance to take photographs in the beautiful venue, either on the stone front entrance steps or one of Frome’s cobbled streets, seasonal foliage displays and a dedicated and welcoming team member to support you on the day.  

“Wedding guests can enjoy refreshments before the ceremony thanks to a licensed bar and should you book the final ceremony of the day, you will also be able to hire the Council Chamber for your reception. 

“It is also the ideal space for official baby naming ceremonies and celebrations if you are looking for a non-religious alternative to a christening ceremony, and a chance for friends and family to come together and celebrate the new addition to a family.”
