FROME Heritage Museum has unveiled a new permanent exhibition, showcasing the ground-breaking history of the Garston Veterinary Group.
The exhibition features a recreation of a veterinary surgery and displays of medication, veterinary equipment and all manner of items collected over the decades – all donated from the archives of the Garston Veterinary Group.
To accompany this new exhibit and to celebrate the fascinating history of the practice, a book has been published by the museum. Entitled ‘Pioneers in Practice: the Vets of Garston House’ and written by Lorraine Johnson, the book tells the remarkable story of this unique country practice.
The story is inspirational, for the practice’s vets were truly revolutionary. From the ground-breaking work caring for the exotic animals at Longleat Safari Park to innovative research and study of early vaccines for farm animals, the vets were true pioneers.
The Garston Veterinary museum exhibition officially opens this Wednesday, 18th July. The book, ‘Pioneers in Practice: the Vets of Garston House’, can be purchased from the museum at a cost of £18.
