A POPULAR independent business in Frome that is over 100 years old is on the market, as the owner looks to retire.
Millers that sell home and garden ware in the Westway Precinct, was founded in 1906 and celebrates its 118th birthday this year. The owner, Richard Macey, says he is now looking for a suitable buyer to take on the business as he retires.
“Millers has become a bit of an institution in the town,” he said. “We must be one of the longest established shops here, it would be lovely if it can carry on.
“There have been some rumours around the town that we are closing down but I just want to reassure residents we aren’t, we are on the market as a retirement sale. It could be that we end up closing if we don’t find a buyer but that is very much a last resort. We’re hoping we can find someone interested in buying the business and who can take it forward.
“Some of the highlights over the years have been when we did a centenary event which would have been around 2006; the other highlight is when we expanded out the front and back.
“Lots of people have said ‘we will miss you if you go’; we are independent and it’s important to maintain these sorts of shops in the town.”
