Photo ID required if voting in person at the Somerton and Frome by-election
Make sure you can vote in the forthcoming parliamentary by-election as the new law on voter ID will apply.
If you’re voting in person, including as a proxy, you will need to show an accepted form of photo ID. This could be a passport or driving licence, or another accepted form such as an Older Person’s or Disabled Bus Pass or a PASS card. You can use your photo ID even if it’s expired, as long as the photo still looks like you.
If you don’t have photo ID as listed above, you can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate, but you only have until 5pm on Wednesday 12th July to apply in time for the by-election https://voter-authority-certificate.service.gov.uk/
If you’re a postal voter, you will not need photo ID. Find out more about voter ID and which documents can be accepted on the Electoral Commission website https://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/
If you’ve changed your address, name or nationality since you last voted, make sure you re-register to vote. You’ll also need to register if you haven’t voted before. It only takes about 5 minutes.
The deadline to register to vote in the by-election is 12 midnight on Tuesday 4th July. Visit https://www.gov .uk/register-to-vote with your national insurance number.
