A MEMBER of Frome Inner Wheel was recently appointed president of the local district, which includes 25 clubs across Somerset, Wiltshire and Dorset.
Frome’s Kate Lewis took over from former president Carole Price earlier this month. 131 Inner Wheel members attended the ceremony, with guest of honour the GB association president Zena Coles, the Rotary district governor, and three visiting Inner Wheel district chairmen from other areas.
Renee Cole said, “A good celebration was had by all, with the Standerwick Suite decorated with bunting, balloons, table flowers and napkins in blue and yellow which are Inner Wheel colours.
“This year has been historic for Frome with the club also celebrating 80 years since it was formed in May 1936. The occasion was celebrated by the club with an afternoon tea, which is how the ladies met then. There was a celebration cake for the occasion with Kate and Freda, a club member who was district chairman 20 years, ago cutting the cake.
“Kate, a retired primary school teacher, chose Wessex Life Education as her charity for the year. The organisation teaches children to live healthily and is close to Kate’s heart.”
