In May last year, Frome Selwood Rotary Club formed the Frome College Interact Club.
For their first charity event, the students led by Tom Haines and Shanna Williamson in Year 13, organised a school fete. It was held at Frome College in July and involved all the five houses providing stalls, and helping to raise money for the ShelterBox charity and the school.
Frome College reports, “It went very well – especially when various teachers went in the stocks! A grand total of £249 was raised. The Interact Club decided that the profit should be split 50:50 between the school houses and ShelterBox.
“Malcolm Westgate from Frome Selwood Rotary Club was presented with a cheque by Tom Haines and the principal, Emma Reynolds, inNovember.
“Malcolm was delighted that the Interact Club had done so well since being formed and wished them well for the future.”
He said, “The money will help buy a ShelterBox which will be used when the next disaster strikes somewhere in the world. Each box provides families with shelter, warmth and dignity when they need it most. Each ShelterBox contains a specially designed tent and other vital equipment, such as blankets, a water filtration unit, cooking equipment and mosquito nets.
“Frome Selwood Rotary look forward to working with the Interact Club in 2019 and raising more money for local and international charities.”
Tom Haines said, “Over the last year, we have worked really hard with Frome Selwood Rotary to create a youth group within Frome College, with the aim of making a difference in the community and the wider world. We are an entirely student-led group that is hoping to expand over the next few years, make an even bigger difference, and run more events.”
