WINSTONE’S Hunting Raven Books has launched a campaign to shine a light on the brilliant things young people in Frome have done for others within the community during the time of Covid.
The celebration of Frome’s young people has been inspired by the achievements of young England footballer Marcus Rashford and his book ‘You Are a Champion: How to be the Best You Can Be’ – a book written by the football star to inspire young people from age 9 to 16.
The footballer has been hailed by the local bookshop as a ‘one of the heroes of the Covid year’ for his campaign to provide free school meals, his support for local food banks and community groups, and for his maturity in the wake of the European Cup Final and the racism he and his team mates experienced.
And now the bookshop – with the support of Frome’s mayor, cllr Andy Wrintmore – is looking for Frome’s answer to ‘Marcus Rashford’, inviting nominations of young people aged between 9 and 16 for its campaign.
“We are interested in both big and small acts of kindness,” said Hunting Raven’s manager Tina Gaisford-Waller. “From shopping for others to being a shoulder to lean on; or drawing beautiful pictures to cheer up a loved one, to raising money for charity. We are asking the people of Frome to nominate a young friend, neighbour, relative, or student who fits the bill.
“Frome’s fabulous new mayor, cllr Andy Wrintmore, has kindly agreed to select 10 of the best examples of kindness and service, which we will display in our kids’ window.
“The best bit? All children nominated will be entered into a draw, and one lucky winner – selected at random – will receive a signed copy of Marcus Rashford’s book ‘You Are a Champion: How to be the Best You Can Be’; one of very few copies of the book to have been signed by Marcus Rashford himself.”
To be eligible for nomination, the young person must be between 9 and 16 years of age and live in Frome or one of the surrounding villages.
If you know a young person who fits the bill, please send an email describing the young person’s act of kindness or the contribution they have made to the community, together with their full name and age, and confirmation that they are resident in Frome or one of the surrounding villages to: winstonebooks3@gmail.com
The deadline for nominations is 5pm on 15th August and the winner will be drawn at random at the start of September.
