Frome Community Lottery has announced the recipients of its latest round of grants, given to help improve local facilities in the Frome area.
The grants were awarded at a presentation evening at the Cheese & Grain on Tuesday 24th November, which was attended by trustees of the Frome Community Lottery and representatives of the organisations receiving grants. In this round of grants, £5,500 has been distributed to 16 local organisations, with the aim of supporting a wide range of opportunities.
“This is a remarkable achievement by those who play the Frome Community Lottery,” said Michael Rhodes, chair of Frome Community Trust. “They have helped to make a substantial difference to life in Frome and the local villages. Many of them have also enjoyed winning cash prizes.”
The 16 successful applicants this year are Frome Collegians Football Club; Memorial Theatre; Frome Museum; St. John’s Church Hall; PACE; Frome Drama Club; Frome Selwood Tennis Club; Frome SODA; Wessex Counselling; Merlin Theatre; Cheese & Grain; Frome FM; Open Story Tellers; Key Centre/Christ Church School; Telling Tales and Harry’s Hydro.
“This money is really welcome”, said Sally Keegan, from Christ Church First School. “It’s for our nursery, and is going towards our music project for under three year olds. It will fund having a musician in to do singing and music with the children – evidence shows this can have a real impact on early learning.”
The Frome Community Lottery was launched in October 2000 to raise money to fund capital projects that involve improving existing or developing new community facilities in the Frome area. It has now donated a total of around £60,000 to local groups and causes. Grants have been given to over 55 different local groups, organisations and projects. These have included groups involved in the arts, sport, health, social care, music, the environment and advisory services.
For just £1 the lottery offers four chances a week to win a prize of up to £10,000. Those who would like to support this unique local fundraising initiative can telephone 01373 473761 or email fromelottery@twynyho.co.uk for a new player form.
