Frome’s ‘Splash of Purple Day’, organised by members of Positive Action on Cancer, has been branded a great success, with many different fund raising events being held around Frome.
Throughout last Friday, local people, businesses, schools, and groups added their own ‘splash of purple’ to help boost funds for the Frome-based charity.
Mary Taylor, director of Positive Action on Cancer said, “The day was really successful – it gave people in the town something to get their teeth into and we’re really pleased with the way it was received.”
One such event was the Nunney Players’ performance of ‘Pinocchio’ in the evening of the 29th of January which was performed as a ‘splash of purple’ performance. All actors and staff wore a purple ribbon or a splash of purple. There was a collection after the performance for PAC.
Local schools also got involved, holding non-uniform days and wearing something purple for the day.
ASDA in Frome helped out in the same fashion by getting their staff to wear something purple rather than their normal uniform for the day. Continuing the spirit of ‘A Splash of Purple’ were the Kilmerserden Reel film people who held their film night of Friday the 29th. They sold the purple ribbons as people went in.
Frome Enterprise Centre, the east Mendip local services team, also got involved, holding their own purple day.
Money raised from the day was still being collected as Frome Times went to print.
Sadly, the day was marred by the news that at least three of the collection tins were stolen. Mary Taylor said, “At the end of the day, somebody went round posing as a representative from PAC and took the tins. One was taken from the bakers, another from Frome Health Foods, and a third from Frome Pet & Aquatics. They were all full, so there must have been a fair amount stolen, which is really disappointing.”

Pub Quiz
The Masons Arms in Frome is lending a helping hand to Positive Action on Cancer (PAC) by holding a charity quiz night on Sunday 7th February.
The evening starts at 7.30pm (quiz starts 8.00pm sharp!) and costs £1 per person entry. Come along in a team of four or join a team when you arrive.
PAC has recently launched its Listening Ear Appeal and is trying to raise £200,000 over the next two years. Rosie Eliot for PAC said, “We are really pleased that the Masons Arms are selecting us as their charity on the night. We need as many pubs in Frome and surrounding areas to hold a quiz night for Positive Action on Cancer so we can achieve our target of £200,000.”
