A zebra crossing on Berkley Road has been repainted after residents raised concerns that drivers were speeding and failing to stop for pedestrians because the markings had faded
Somerset Council’s Highways Team recently repainted the crossing outside Selwood Academy following a resident’s warning that it was an “accident waiting to happen” after witnessing several drivers “speed” and “fail to stop” at the site.
Welcoming the refreshed markings, the resident, who had been preparing to launch a petition calling for speeding measures along Berkley Road, said he hopes drivers now “take more care.”

“It really was horrendous,” he said. “My partner was nearly knocked over on the crossing by someone who failed to stop. I am pleased the markings have been refreshed and hope that drivers pay more attention.”
Mayor of Frome, Cllr Anita Collier, who is also lead Frome Town Councillor for road safety, said she was pleased the crossing outside the school had been refreshed.
She said, “Crossings like these make such a huge difference to road safety but obviously that benefit is reduced if they are worn and faded. Thank you to Somerset Council for making the improvements.”
