Whilst most of the FAOS were involved with the final performance of Annie on Saturday 15th May, two members, Lou Knight and Tom Carpenter, were representing the society for their production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at the Somerset Fellowship of Drama Cinderella Awards for Pantomime in Yeovil that same night.
They were both well rewarded for their efforts as Lou was nominated ‘Best Female Voice of the Year’ and Tom Carpenter won ‘Young Comic of the Year’.
In fact the evening proved to be a triumph for the society as they scooped a number of nominations and winners throughout the night. In addition to Lou’s nomination for ‘Best Female Voice of the Year’ others were received for ‘Best Junior Chorus’, ‘Best Make-up’, ‘Speciality Costumes for the animals’, ‘Best Properties’, ‘Best Stage Management’, ‘Best Principal Boy’ – Sophie Rozycka as Prince Ferdinand, ‘Best Female Villain’ – Jo Plenty as Queen Avarice, ‘Linkman of the year’ – Davey Evans as Chuckles, ‘Best Musical Director’ – David Hynds and ‘Best Performance aged 16 or under’ – Tom Carpenter as Scribbles.
In addition Christian Wye, Tom McCallam, Jake Kneller, Jake Howell, Finlay Collinson, Oliver Child, Oliver Wareham, Ross Toten and Tom Carpenter were all chosen as ‘Stars of the Future’.
In addition to Tom Carpenter winning ‘Young Comic of the Year’ the FAOS also won ‘Romantic Duet of the Year’ – Sophie Rozycka and Nicole Wooldridge, ‘Percussionist of the Year’ – Tony Stockley, ‘Best Principal Girl’ – Nicole Wooldridge as Snow White, ‘Choreographer of the Year’ – Sue McNamee and ‘Best Director’ – Andrew Carpenter. However the best was yet to come as ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ won the Cinderella Trophy – the top award for the night.
In total the society scooped 11 nominations, nine stars of the future and seven outright winners including the Cinderella Trophy, making Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs the most outstanding pantomime in Somerset according to the judges from the Somerset Fellowship of Drama.
Lou and Tom travelled back to the Annie after show party to announce the winners and distribute the trophies to those that were present. All in all a very successful week for the FAOS both on and off the stage.
