Frome Station Commander, Ian Humphreys, has been congratulated on behalf of the Queen for his longstanding commitment to the Fire & Rescue Service.
Ian was presented with long service award earlier this month by the Lord Lieutenant for Devon, Eric Dancer CBE JP. Ian joined the Fire & Rescue Service 21 years ago as a retained fireman, and has since worked his way through the ranks to his current role of station commander.
He told the Frome Times, “It is an enjoyable job and very rewarding knowing that you are helping people when they are in difficulty.
“I also like the variety that the job offers – one minute you can be rescuing somebody who has been in an accident and the next you are putting out a fire.”
Chief fire officer Lee Howell for Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service and fire authority chairman, Mark Healey, congratulated Ian on his achievement.
Ian said, “It was a very proud moment getting my award.”
