A Frome woman is hoping to raise thousands of pounds to help sufferers of multiple sclerosis (MS) through a charity auction to be held in November.
This is not the first time that Debbie Shingler, of Weavers Croft, has raised money for MS sufferers.
Her father, Tony Mitchell, has suffered with a progressive form of MS for 10 years, so the cause is close to her heart.
MS is the most common disabling neurological condition affecting adults. Around 100,000 people in the UK have the condition.
“At the moment, dad can still walk but he has an implant which sends little electric shocks to keep his leg moving,” Debbie said. “He was a carpet fitter before, so he had to give that up completely.”
Over the past three years, Debbie has been raising money for the MS Society through cake sales to family and friends. She also ran 5k for the charity. So far she has raised around £600.
“If I can raise around £3,000 through the auction then that would be brilliant,” she said. “The money is going to be split between the Bath and Warminster MS societies and it will be spent on costs of taking MS sufferers out on trips and the like.”
So far, there are some great auction lots which have been donated by local businesses. Bidders wil have the chance to win a year’s cleaning service, comprising two hours a week and valued at £1,200, courtesy of Debbie’s own business D J Domestics.
Also up for grabs are tickets for various days out including the air museum in Yeovil, Bath’s Theatre Royal, the SS Brunel, and more.
