WITH almost 60 lots donated already, local businesses have come out in force to support a Frome fundraiser’s auction of promises and to help raise money for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) charities.
At the top of the list is the weekend loan of a limited edition Peugeot RCZ Coupe, complete with a full tank of fuel and insurance, donated by Oval of Westbury.
The auction, which will take place on the 4th November at The Masons Arms, is being organised by Debbie Shingler, whose father Tony Mitchell suffers from MS.
Other lots on offer will include a 10 Downing Street parker pen, a copy of ‘The Shetland Dairies’, signed by author Simon King, and a personal chef for the night.
David Heath MP has promised tea for two on the terrace, where two people will get to have afternoon tea with David at the Houses of Parliament. Debbie’s own business, DJ Domestics, has also offered one year’s cleaning (for two hours a week) for the auction.
Debbie said, “I’ve written to local businesses, individuals, and people that I work for – my company has quite nice clients! Everyone’s been very very generous.
Debbie has done plenty of fundraising for MS before, but is determined to make this event special. “I do an annual cake bake but this time I decided to go a bit bigger and raise more money,” she said. “I’ve written 400-odd letters now to local businesses and people!”
The money will be split between the Bath MS Society and Bradbury House in Warminster.
Debbie explained, “The Bath one is more of a support group, where they have days out and meetings where people can get together and talk over problems and they can be a listening ear. Bradbury House is a treatment centre, but they’re not government funded.”
“There are 100 tickets for the event and I’ve actually sold quite a few of those already – so the people who want to go need to get their tickets soon!”
