The leisure centre in Frome has been instructed to carry out urgent repairs following a recent inspection by Somerset Council, with the issues now affecting plans for Frome College GCSE exams.
The authority, which is the landlord and owner of the building, said it is ‘in discussions’ with the operator to resolve the issues.
The news comes after Frome College was forced to relocate GCSE exams away from the leisure centre sports hall due to ‘uncertainty’ over its use.
Principal Emma Reynolds said, “Due to circumstances beyond our control, we took the decision to re-room our examinations held at the Frome Leisure Centre. While there is outstanding remedial work requiredin the sports centre and uncertainty over when this will be undertaken, we have made a decision to relocate students across the college campus to minimise disruption. Students have adapted well to the changeand we do not foresee any issues.”
MP Anna Sabine has said she is ‘disappointed’ at the news. She said, “Having young adults disrupted during a crucial time in their education because of poor maintenance is unacceptable and I will be writing to Somerset Council to understand how this situation has occurred.”
Leisure centre operator Fusion Lifestyle went into administration on 1st April. Professional services company S&W Partners LLP (S&W) was appointed as administrator and has been running Fusion temporarily for three months while a new operator is found.
