THE festive season will be kicking off in town this weekend with the annual Frome Christmas Spectacular.
The Spectacular will be held on Sunday 28th November from 2.00pm to 5.30pm in the town centre.
This year, there will be plenty of activities and attractions for everyone to enjoy in the Market Yard car park and the Westway precinct during the afternoon. At 3.30pm an advent service will take place at St John’s Church, followed by a torchlight advent procession from the church to the Market Place at 4.30pm. Community carol singing with Frome Town Youth Band will take place from 4.40pm in the Market Place.
The highlight of the day will be the Christmas lights switch-on and Christmas greetings from the Mayor of Frome, cllr Helen Sprawson-White and David Heath MP from the balcony of The George in the Market Place at 5.00pm, before a fantastic fireworks finale at 5.30pm in the car park.
Frome Mayor, cllr Helen Sprawson-White said, “This year’s Spectacular hopes to pull together the best of the old and the new style event. Activities will run in the Cattle Market car park and the Westway precinct from 2.00pm including fairground rides, skate rink, circus skills, reindeer, Santa, arts and crafts, markets, musical entertainment and much more!
“We will have a road closure at 4.30pm in the Market Place for community carol singing and for myself and the Mayor’s Christmas card winner, Charlotte O-Shea, to turn on the Christmas lights – just like the old days!”
“Please come on down, support your town and join in the festive fun!”
Activities throughout the afternoon will include Santa’s grotto, a skate rink, funfair rides and stalls, pet and feed the reindeer, circus shows skills and workshops, stage with live entertainment including The Boot Hill All Stars, children’s arts and crafts activity marquee, a balloon modeller, charity stalls, Christmas markets in the Cheese and Grain, and bespoke shopping available in the town’s independent shops on Cheap Street, King Street and Catherine Hill.
You can also win a £50 prize, donated by the Frome Times, by taking part in the Christmas Tree Trail competition finding all the trees in the shops around in town (the competition will run during all of advent).
Please note that there will be a road closure in place for Market Place and King Street from 4.30pm to 5.30pm (from St John’s Church through to the museum). In addition, no parking will be available in the Cattle Market car park or the Market Place all day on the 28th November.
