Help for Heroes was selected jointly by the Lions Club of Frome and the Frome Rotary Club to be the main beneficiary for the Grand Gala Fete held on the Old Showfield in July 2010.
The fete was a great success with an estimated 3,000 people passing through the gate during the day. Because of the large number of stalls run by other charities, it is estimated that the fete raised in excess of £7,000 for charity, this includes the £2,500 for Help for Heroes.
At the hand-over of the cheque at Frome Rugby Club by representatives from the Lions Club of Frome and Frome Rotary Club on 24th January, David Bartholomew, West Wilts co-ordinator for Help for Heroes explained that all the money donated went to the troops as administration costs were already covered, and the troops needed all the support they could get. For every person killed in the conflict, between five and six return injured, needing help.
The Lions Club of Frome supported by the Frome Rotary Club will be running the Grand Gala Fete 2011 on the Old Showfield on Saturday 16th July 2011. Invitations for stalls, sideshows and attractions will be made shortly.
