IN just their second season in the highest reached league in the club’s history, Frome Town FC have reached the play-offs for the chance of promotion to the Zamaretto League’s Premier Division.
The team secured their place in the play-offs after comfortably beating Andover 3-0 on Saturday, whilst Hungerford lost to AFC Totton. There are still three games to play before the end of the season in the Zamaretto Division One South West league, but the Robins are now 10 points clear over fifth place Almondsbury Town.
Manager Darren Perrin said, “We are delighted to have reached the play-offs. We have a young team full of local players, it is an achievement that everyone at the club is proud of and hopefully Frome residents do feel the same way.
“This is just our second season in this league. Last year we missed out on the play-offs by one place.
“It has been tough, but the team has achieved so much together this season, setting a new all-time club record of 11 straight wins, one of the best attacking and defence forces in the league and now reaching a play-off place – it is fantastic.”
Darren acknowledges that this season, the Robins may have already been playing teams at a higher lever than expected. “We knew it was going to be a tough league, but we are in it to win. The players deserve all the credit going, we were punching above our weight but all the players have stepped up their standard of football and to get where we are is phenomenal.”
While the play-off draw is yet to be confirmed, the manager believes that the first game will be away to Mangotsfield United, whom Frome Town beat twice previously this season, both games finishing 2-0.
“The game will be played on Thursday 28th of April at 7.45pm,” he said. “It is 99% to be against Mangotsfield United, but we will have to wait for the rest of the results to come in before this is finalised. It will be an away game.
“The support from the fans has been incredible all year and we will need this support on the day. It is a bank holiday the day after – so there is no excuse! I would love to see the lads get through the play-offs and promoted, not for myself, but for the supporters, the committee and for the people of Frome.”
