It is only one week to curtain up for this year’s Frome Amateur Operatic Society’s autumn production of ‘Return to the Forbidden Planet’.
The new production has been even more hands-on than usual for members of the society who say, “For the first time in the history of the FAOS the complete set is being totally constructed by society members from scratch and this construction commenced on Saturday 24th September.
“The set has been conceived, designed and lead constructed by Steve Scammell, who recently wowed Frome audiences in the leading role of Frome Drama Club’s ‘One Flew over the Cuckoo Nest’, and is the partner of the show’s co-producer Lisa Kendall. With the help of Tipadel and two dozen keen members, the set is now taking shape. This in-house approach has been taken throughout the production with costumes, wigs, props and multi-media which features heavily within this show.
“With the help of Frome College, Terry Stewart has been busy pre-recording many of the scenes and effects to appear on a large screen that is being built into the set. This production really breaks new ground for the society and we’re sure audiences will be impressed with what they see.
“Lovers of the show ‘That’ll be the day’, which visits the Memorial Theatre annually, will love this production because it features many of the songs from the era covered by that show. Songs such as Wipe Out, It’s A Man’s World, Great Balls Of Fire, Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood, Good Vibrations, Teenager In Love, Young Girl, She’s Not There, All Shook Up, Gloria, Who’s Sorry Now?, Tell Her, Shake Rattle And Roll, Go Now, Only The Lonely, The Young Ones, Born To Be Wild and Monster Mash.”
Tickets are available for each of the performances on Thursday 6th, Friday 7th and Saturday 8th October at the Frome Memorial Theatre starting at 7.30pm and may be purchased from the box office between 9.30am and 1.00pm or bought on the door on the evening of the performance.
