AS part of their bid to raise £20,000 for a new 250-seat stand, Frome Town Football Club is offering a raffle with the winning ticket handed the naming rights for the new stand for the 2012/13 season.
Tickets are £50 with no maximum number of entries per person. Other prizes in the draw are yet to be announced, with the closing dates for entries on the 1st Jan. 2012.
Frome Town FC secretary, Ian Pearce, says, “This special scheme will help towards our target of £20,000 and also gives those who enter the chance of some excellent exposure.”
The club is tasked with raising £20,000 to cover the cost of the new stand, which has to be in place and completed by the 31st of March. Should the club not complete the stand then they could face automatic relegation.
Ian commented, “The reason for the new stand is part of the FA’s ground grading requirement. Because we’ve been promoted, we have to make sure our ground is at a minimum level that the FA set. This is really important – if we don’t get the seating we’ll be relegated. It’s one of those horrible situations – even if we won the league we could still be relegated.”
Local man’s ‘mo’ will help raise funds.
Kevin Corcoran, from Kevin Corcoran Carpets and Vinyls in Frome, will help raise funds for the new football stand and Cancer Research, Over the coming weeks he will grow a moustache and then on the 1st December he will shave one side of his head bald and half of the moustache on the opposite side and stay like that until 16th of December.
Kevin Corcoran said, “I want to try and raise some money for these two good causes – but with a bit of humour at the same time! People can come in and see me at our showroom on the Marston Industrial Estate to donate or make pledges.
“Cancer Research is a charity that is close to most people and as for the football club, as a community we really need to get behind them and make sure they can get the facilities up to scratch as relegation over a technicality would be a disaster.
“The club do a lot for Frome and have really helped put us on the map in terms of football, so businesses and individuals in the town need to rally around and support their cause.”
Players doing their bit
The playing squad of Frome Town FC are doing their bit to raise money for the new stand – by growing their moustaches.
For the past few years during November men have been gaining sponsorship for charity by growing moustaches and it has subsequently been dubbed ‘Movember. The squad is now getting personal sponsorship pledges from friends and family to help towards the costing of the new stand.
Players’ spokesperson Mike Perrott said, “All the lads feel that Frome has massive potential and as well as trying our best on the pitch, we will try to do all we can off it.
“Our team spirit and being mates helps us a lot in order to do both. We enjoy attending functions and having new ideas as it’s always good banter between us.
“The ‘Movember’ idea came about as just another small way for us as players to be able to give something back to the club and we will all be growing moustaches for the month in aid of the new stand. Anybody can sponsor a player or the team no matter how small a donation – everything is appreciated.”
Players all have their own sponsorship forms or you can make pledges via the club by emailing ian@frometownfc.co.uk
Frome Town FC supporters Steve Jupp and Teresa Graham successfully completed their sponsored walk from Shepton Mallet to Frome Town on Saturday 29th October, and arrived in time for the game against Hemel Hempstead. In the process, they raised over £1,000 towards the stand appeal.
Upcoming events in support of Frome Town FC
Also in support of the appeal, a charity disco has been arranged for Friday 2nd of December where the majority of the proceeds will be going to the club’s charity ‘Time is Precious’. Ticket prices are £5, with £1 of every ticket sold going towards the seating appeal. Tickets are available for this event from either the bars at the football club or from HSBC in the town centre.
An additional night of bingo is being held in the venue & sports bar at the football ground on Mondays each week, starting at 8.00pm, where all profits will be put to the stand appeal.
Also on the agenda for fundraising is a sports quiz on Friday 17th of February 2012 for teams of four people costing £8 a team or £10 on the night and entries are to be made through Jamie Malley on 07767 873108.
