PEOPLE in Frome stopped to honour those who have sacrificed their lives or been injured in combat, on Sunday 13th November as the annual Remembrance parade and service was held in the town.
The parade, led by Flight Lieutenant Andrew March, formed at the Keyford Drill Hall before marching down to the well-attended service outside at the Memorial.
The Act of Remembrance was led this year by the Frome branch of the Royal British Legion president, Rev Neil Maxted. The epitaph before the silence was read by chairman Shaun O’Connor, and an ACF cadet delivered the Last Post.
After the silence, wreaths were laid by organisations including the Royal British Legion, Mayor of Frome, Mendip District Council, Royal Naval Association, Royal Air Force Association, Police, Fire Service, St John Ambulance, Army Cadet Force, Air Training Corp, Combined Cadet Force, Lions, Frome Community College, Old Pupils’ Association, Scouts and Guides. A wreath was also laid by Mary Kelley, in honour and memory of her father, William Cole, and Ernest Barnes, ARP wardens killed in Frome on Good Friday, 1941, and for all those affected by the war.

In perfect weather, we were humbled and heartened by the ever increasing attendance, as was experienced around the country.
“As Remembrance coordinator for the Frome branch of the Royal British Legion, the overwhelming response from Remembrance Sunday was of immense pride for being part of such a wonderful town.”
