JENSON Button has claimed second spot overall in the F1 World Championships after gaining his 12th podium position of the season at this year’s final Grand Prix in Brazil on 27th November.
The Frome Flyer finished third in Brazil. Overall, he secures a solid second place 12 points ahead of third place Mark Webber.
Sebastian Vettel clinched the championships with a mammoth lead of 122 points.
It was the first time that Jenson beat his team-mate Lewis Hamilton and many F1 pundits believe he is a better driver now than when he won the 2009 championship, driving for Brawn.
Jenson, who was driving for McLaren for the second year said, “I’ve had 12 podiums from this season’s 19 Grands Prix – and I didn’t finish two of them due to reliability issues. All in all, it’s been a good, consistent season for us.
“There are a lot of positives to take away from this year. We’ll have a strong winter and come out fighting from the first race. We’ve just got to start the season a bit more strongly, that’s all, and that’s what we’ll be aiming to do. We want to make it hard for Red Bull in 2012.
“I want to say a big thank-you to the whole team – we’ve really grown together this year. I really feel like I’m part of the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes family now: there’s an awful lot of passion in our organisation, and I’m proud to be part of it.”
In a BBC interview, Jenson was asked to tell his F1 fans something they might not know. Jenson replied, “In my hometown there is a pub named after me – The Frome Flyer on Jenson Avenue – how cool is that?!”
