FROME’S community has pulled together to help raise £25,000 for Frome Town Football Club’s new 250- seater stadium, with just a final push needed now to secure the last £2,000.
At the start of the season, the club was tasked to build a 250-seat stadium by the FA upon their promotion to the Evostik League Southern Premier Division.
The club launched an appeal to secure £20,000 so that they could apply for match funding to construct the new stadium.
Last week the club revealed that they have raised in excess of £25,000, smashing their original target, but still need more funds to secure the new stand. It is estimated that another £2,000 is needed due to additional costings.
Club Secretary Ian Pearce has called upon the people of Frome to help with one final push. He said, “It has been a brilliant response from the community and our supporters to raise the amount we have already, but if we can just have that final push we know the stand will be up in time, as long as we are successful in our grant application to the Football Stadia Improvement Fund.
“Because the land slopes significantly around the ground, we have had to bring in a structural engineer to confirm the actual requirements of the ground works we have needed, which has almost doubled its cost because of the findings. The actual stand itself will also cost more because of additional works on needing handrails and steps because one end of the stand will be over a metre from ground level.”
The additional £2,000 is above the expected income to be generated from the already organised fund raising events or donations already accounted for, but not yet presented.
Events still to come are bag packing at Asda and Sainsbury’s by the youth section, a football quiz night organised by Jamie Malley, a ‘Back to Skool’ disco with Paul Carver and a committee vs supporters football match.
