The new Mayor of Frome was appointed by her fellow councillors on 19th May at the Annual Town Council meeting.
Cllr Helen Sprawson-White has been a town councillor for three years and is the youngest ever female Mayor of Frome.
Cllr Sprawson-White said, “My year as mayor will have a community focus. Having lived in Frome nearly all my life I know Frome well and I want to help the town council to continue to make Frome a better place. I want to involve as many people as possible in doing this.
“One way I am particularly keen on is holding a series of events to attract children, young people as well as adults and older people from as many parts of the community as possible. My chosen charity is the Somerset and Dorset Air Ambulance to which I hope to link some of these events .”
Cllr Helen Sprawson-White, 32, moved to Frome in 1988 and went to school in Frome and is a health care assistant at Frome Medical Practice.
Frome Town Council also appointed cllr David Oakensen as Deputy Mayor. Cllr Oakensen has been a town councillor for many years, lives in Frome and is a chartered accountant practicing in Trowbridge. Cllr Oakensen said, “I am delighted and proud to be appointed as Deputy Mayor. I firmly believe that the civic functions of the town council are an important part of Frome life and I shall do my best to support the mayor in her role.”
