Oakfield Academy was visited by an ITV news film crew recently, to raise awareness around the improved funding needed for all schools across the country.
At the same time, headteacher, Emma Wilkes, joined hundreds of other headteachers from across the country in delivering a letter to 10 Downing Street, shining a light on the funding difficulties faced by the education sector.
Under the umbrella ‘Worth Less?’ headteachers across the country are tackling the cuts, in real terms, to school budgets, with the new funding formula inadequately resourced or funded, meaning budgets remain in an unacceptably poor state.
Oakfield pupils also addressed the issues, looking at what cuts might mean to their curriculum experiences, their learning and progress at school. They worked as a team to plan and write several letters addressed to the Prime Minister, asking about what the next steps were for funding in the education sector and how might these issues be solved, using their own personal experiences to emphasise what the pressures may mean for school children across the country.
Deputy headteachers David McGrath and Emma Thomas were interviewed, together with Year 8 pupils Jess McAlpine, Connie Bates, Cameron Baldwin and Freddie Bethell.
