An evening exploring the powerful connection between food, health and the environment is due to take place at Frome Medical Practice next month.
Residents are invited to listen to a panel of professionals on Thursday 5th June at Frome Medical Practice for fresh perspectives and thoughtful discussion. The evening will also provide an opportunity to connect with others and share ideas.
The evening will be hosted by Charlotte Carson, sustainability lead at Frome Medical Practice and the panel will include Dr Helen Kingston, GP from Frome Medical Practice, Lesley Harper from Somerset NHS Integrated Care Board, Tasha Stevens-Vallecillo from Land Food Medicine and Hugh Thomas, coordinator of the Frome Food Network.
Charlotte Carson said, “What we eat affects our health, our communities and the environment. How can what’s on our plate affect our world and our own health?
“In a time of rising chronic illness, pressure on the NHS and a rapidly changing climate, the link between what we eat and how we feel has never been more urgent. Food choices affect not only our bodies but also our communities and the health of the planet.
“Some of the Frome Times readers will have attended the Frome Food Network’s pop-up pay-what-you-can community restaurant Canteen, which has been running every other month since October 2024 at Trinity Hall in Frome. Canteen has created a pop up with great locally sourced food that is affordable to all, supported by Edventure Frome’s Future Shed.”
The food and health conversation will run from 6pm to 8pm. There will be free nibbles and the event is free to book: bit.ly/foodhealthfrome, booking is recommended.
If you are unable to attend the event, there will be an opportunity to listen again on our Green & Healthy radio show on mixcloud.com/genres/greenhealthy at the end of June.
This event is part of Green & Healthy Frome, a partnership programme of Edventure Frome, Frome Medical Practice and Frome Town Council taking action on health and climate, funded by the National Lottery’s Climate Action Fund.
