Local charity We Hear You is running a month-long ‘Jump into June’ fundraising campaign in its 25th anniversary year and is calling on local people and businesses to get involved to help raise money for its free professional counselling service for people affected by cancer or a life threatening condition.
There are many events planned, including a sponsored skydive; a skittles world record attempt on Sunday 2nd June, organised by the team behind last year’s world record-breaking rowathon; ‘WHYacoustic’, a music event featuring Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis on Friday 7th June; a ‘Toddle Waddle’ sponsored walk for pre-schoolers in Victoria Park on 18th June; and a silent auction with prizes including overnight breaks, meals, family days out and more. Local business Palette and Pasture are also offering a special raspberry and blueberry ‘Jump into June’ ice cream at their café throughout the month.
Fundraising officer Helen White says, “It’s shaping up to be a fantastic month and a great way to celebrate WHY’s 25th anniversary – a huge thank you to everyone who’s helping to make it happen.
“We’d still love to add to the calendar of events – if you could host a tea party, persuade your workmates or your school to do a sponsored dress down day or a cake sale, we’d love to hear from you – and don’t forget to send us your photos!
“Alternatively, bid in our auction, take part in the skittles world record, buy tickets for WHYacoustic or drop some money in our collection buckets in Asda Frome on 15th June – there are so many ways to get involved.
“If you aren’t able to donate money, your time is also incredibly valuable to us: if you could spare a few hours to volunteer, get in touch with our volunteer coordinator, Lottie. Every penny raised will help people in our community dealing with the devastating emotional impact of a life-threatening condition. WHY now offers more than 100 sessions each week at a cost of almost £18,000 a month, so fundraising campaigns like this one are more important than ever.”
