CLASSES are being run in Frome to help older people keep fit and healthy in their retirement.
The Mature Movers classes, run by Age UK, focuses on a variety of gentle exercises to suit people of all abilities.
Age UK’s Dianne Ramsay says, “Each week is very different, but we often use resistance bands to build strength in both bones and muscles. We incorporate some standing, balance and strength exercises with the aid of a chair if needed.
“Classes will help to improve flexibility, mobility, balance and strength and also a chance to socialise while staying active, helping to maintain independence, health and wellbeing.
“The sessions are lots of fun and people can gather together for a chat and a drink in the coffee shop on-site.
“Our classes aim to help older people build activity levels without putting strain on hips, knees, legs or arms. It is ideal for people with arthritis or osteoporosis or who have had knee or hip surgery to gently build up fitness.
“It’s also a fun and effective way of mixing with other people. So please do come and join us!”
Mature Movers is held for retired and semi-retired people at Frome Medical Practice on Mondays from 12.00noon-1.00pm. The sessions cost £3.50 each.
