A FROME painter and decorator, Steve Chivers, is encouraging more people to use local businesses saying we either ‘use them or lose them’.
Steve has been a self-employed painter and decorator for the past 13 years, three of which operating in Frome after moving from Midsomer Norton.
He said, “If you use a local tradesman, you pay them and they will then use the money in the town. I try to keep my spending local using the cinema, the theatres, coffee shops and the Cheese & Grain to support other local businesses.
“I moved to Frome three years ago, but have always enjoyed coming to Frome. I actually played for, coached and refereed for Frome Basketball Club in the 1970s, meeting a huge amount of lovely people.
“The atmosphere here and the ethos of the people are great. They always try to give back to the community and use the local trades and businesses.
“Before painting and decorating, I spent 31 years in the printing industry which has helped me have a particular eye for detail as printing is an exact art.
