The Keyford community came together recently to raise £324 for Keyford Hedgehog Rescue and Rehab at the area’s annual fete.
Organised by the Keyford Area Neighbourhood Group (KANG), the fete was held in the closed-off bunting adorned street, and partygoers were encouraged to bring food and drink to share as well as a chair.
Festivities included a very popular bottle-stall tombola in aid of Keyford Hedgehog Rescue and Rehab, live music, a juggler, a ‘guess the weight of the cake’ contest (3.1 kg!), expertly baked by Lotta, face painting, children’s games, storytelling, and a large grassy Village Green for toddlers, kindly loaned by Rik Haines of Positive Experience.
“The Crown pub put on a delicious BBQ and Frome’s Official Town Crier – and Keyford resident – Martin Scott brought some historic charm with a bespoke cry,” said organiser and KANG committee member Lyndsey Mayhew.
“We were thrilled to raise £324 for the Keyford Hedgehog Rescue and Rehab. One of the highlights of the afternoon was a tug-of-war match where the Monmouth Rebels claimed a 2:1 victory over the Royalists — a playful nod to the 340th anniversary of the Monmouth Rebellion, which passed through Frome in 1685.
“It really was the most joyful afternoon. The weather was fantastic and it was heartwarming to see so many people attend, get stuck in with the games and bring delicious food to share.
“A huge thanks goes to all the amazing volunteers who gave their time and efforts to plan the day and the kind people who donated bottles. Also thanks to Frome Carnival Club for stewarding and Keyford resident and lifestyle photographer Constance Doyle, who documented our memories with such style.”
