ELEVEN year-old Oakfield Academy student Kieran Merritt is set to run the 5k section of the Frome Half Marathon in memory of his great-grandad who passed away at Frome Community Hospital last year.
Kieran and his mum Debbie met Matron Hayley Hughes and the nursing staff of the Marshfield Ward, to see how Kieran could donate something that would be for the future benefit of the patients and as a permanent memorial for his great-grandad.
Kieran has been training hard for the run as well as raising almost £400 in sponsorship.
Proud mum, Debbie Merritt said, “Kieran and his great-grandad were very close, and this was Kieran’s own way to do something special in his memory.
“To participate in the annual half marathon is entirely his own initiative. Not only has he been training hard, but he has gone on to raise a fabulous amount of money for the hospital.
“Look out for us both in our distinctive Friends of Frome Hospital t-shirts and give us a cheer on Marathon day.”
Donations for Kieran can be made through the Friends of Frome Hospital website
